what is truth?

John 18:37-38 Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." 38 Pilate *said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and *said to them, "I find no guilt in Him.

What is the most valuable thing in the world?

What is the truth, or worldview perspective, of the following cartoons?

The BIG IDEA for class today is: What is a worldview?

A good answer to that questions is, "It is the lens by which we view the world."

A worldview can also be described as:

  • a personal philosophy of life.

  • a set of assumptions that make up your personal outlook on the nature of the world.

  • a mental model of the world--a subjective representation of external reality. p 14 *

  • a set of beliefs about the most important issues in life. p 7 *

  • the filter that helps you make sense of your experiences and the reality around you. p 15 *

  • a person's "big picture" of ultimate reality...about five critical issues: God, Creation, Humanity, Moral Order and Purpose. p 8 *

  • a pattern of ideas, beliefs, convictions, and habits that help us make sense of God, the world, and our relationship to God and the world. p 6 *

How is a worldview like a map?

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

this course will explore the following worldview questions

what is the source of truth?

what is god like?

what is the nature of man?

what is the nature of the universe?

what is the meaning of history?

In class we watched this short video about what is a worldview What is Your Worldview?
